Music Distribution FAQs

By Jacque Alec

What is Music Distribution?

Music distribution is the process of getting your music into the hands of your fans. This can be done through several different channels, including digital stores like iTunes and Amazon Music, streaming services like Spotify and Apple Music, or even physical stores like record shops. Consider using Vampr Distribution for all your music distribution needs.

What is a Music Distribution Deal?

A music distribution deal is an agreement between a musician and a music distributor. The distributor agrees to distribute the musician’s music to the appropriate channels in exchange for a cut of the sales. This cut is usually either a 15-20% commission of royalties or an upfront fee.

How To Get A Music Distribution Deal?

There are a few different ways to get a music distribution deal. The most well known way is to sign with a record label. Record labels will often times have their own in-house distributors, so this can be a good way to get your music out there. Another option is to sign with an independent label. The most popular option for young emerging artists is to release their music through an aggregator or music distribution service such as Vampr Distribution or TuneCore.

How Long Does Music Distribution Take?

The amount of time it takes to distribute your music will vary depending on the type of distribution you choose. For example, if you are distributing your music through iTunes, it can take up to two weeks for your music to appear in the store. Typically stores will ingest content within 72 hours of receiving your tracks.
